CCVIP

If you have trouble reading much of our brochure, you may find the following of particular interest: The Computer Center for Visually Impaired People, part of the Baruch College Division of Continuing Studies, offers computer courses with a difference. CCVIP uses equipment featuring large-print and speech-access technology.

Our courses in Windows, WordPerfect, Excel, Internet, and others feature adaptive equipment that allows these popular packages to be used by people who have trouble reading the standard screen. A maximum of ten people may enroll in a course; each course is taught by an experienced instructor, assisted by tutors. The environment is ideal for anyone who would like to move at a slightly slower pace, or for those who would appreciate extra individual attention.

If you are not currently a Windows user, but want to learn a Windows Application, you may enroll in CCVIP's required 3-hour Windows seminar (CVSEM0000) to orient yourself to the graphical environment. After successful completion of this seminar, you may enroll in any course not posting additional requirements. We make every attempt to place students in the most appropriate classes for their individual skill levels.

CCVIP offers an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 pm on the first Wednesday of each month, in order to acquaint visitors with our lab. Those attending will see demonstrations of the adaptive equipment that allows people with visual limitations to become fluent computer users, alongside their full-sighted colleagues and fellow students.

Our location is: 151 East 25th Street, Room 648. For more information, or to register for CCVIP classes and seminars, please call (212)802-2140 or visit the CCVIP homepage.

Participants in these hands-on seminars may be those blind individuals who are debating whether to upgrade their computers to run the Windows operating system. Observers may be teachers, employers, or professionals interested in witnessing the Graphical User Interface in action.
