This course will cover
the financing, marketing and distribution of independent
feature films. Subjects covered include raising capital,
developing talent, locating crews, and screenplay
acquisition. The course will also cover how companies
acquire and market their products, from independent sales
companies to major Hollywood distributors. Secondary
markets (video, cable TV) will also be thoroughly
explored, as will producing features on shoestring
budgets. Case studies: Clerks, Pulp Fiction,
Brothers McMullen, and made-for-television movies.
The course will "demystify" the role of the
producer and show that it does not take a miracle to get
